The Opportunity

Evidenced by the building of many new schools in our area and the rapid growth of local neighborhood developments Blythewood was faced with unprecedented growth.  With the reality of urban sprawl and the encroachment of the “big-box store” mentality, our Town aggressively pursued a plan for its future. Building a taskforce made up of some of the country’s top experts along with local residents, Blythewood’s leaders gathered the research and advice necessary to help craft a responsible long-term plan around an ambitious vision. 

The Vision

A thriving village complete with a bustling main street, one-of-a-kind boutiques, art galleries and restaurants is the future of Blythewood.  An activity packed family-centric park with an amphitheatre, and extensive beautification projects will further distinguish Blythewood, and establish it as a sought after destination to visit, live in, work and raise our families.

The Plan

The comprehensive 10-year master-plan was adopted in 2010 and will forever work to protect our town’s heritage while managing and fostering responsible growth.  We are proud that the American Planning Association chose Blythewood for its 2010 Outstanding Planning Project Award.

A wise man once said, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. Blythewood’s exciting vision is in high-gear with many projects currently underway. Our plan is in motion and our future is bright.
